Colors are an expression of identity – Ancient art in the context of the tradition of painted sculptures

Seeing colors means rethinking colors, and thus re-evaluating the significance of colors in relation to form. This requires, especially if we are looking at sculptures, a cognitive process that does not judge historical works of art by the standards of our present-day experience and aesthetic evaluation, but rather sees them in the context of the dominant spirit of our time. But even contemporary art movements are embedded in a global context of Big History, so that with regard to painted sculptures, it looks back on a tradition that is thousands of years old and shows that people across epochs and across the globe have had the need to color three-dimensional works as well.
